Where is Obama now?

The Obama family has been out of office officially for six weeks now. From traveling the world to simply going out for coffee, one could say former president Barack Obama is enjoying his time post-presidency.

After attending current president Donald Trump’s inauguration, the Obamas boarded Air Force 1 a final time for a flight to Palm Springs, California to begin their vacation. The family has spent time in Palm Springs in the past, and they are in the market for a house in Rancho Mirage, California near Palm Springs.

The following Monday, Obama and his wife Michelle headed down to the British Virgin Islands. Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, said in a blog post that he invited the Obamas to stay on Mosikto Island following the end of Obama’s second term as president. While in office, Obama was not allowed to go surfing or do any other water sport because of safety reasons. Obama was eager to get back into water activities, and he even learned to kite surf.

Following his relaxing vacation, Obama and his wife travelled back to the states to Washington D.C where their daughters are living. The Obamas plan to stay in Washington so that Obama’s youngest daughter, Sasha, can graduate from high school. The Obamas will live in the Kalorama neighborhood temporarily, and will become the first family to remain in the capital since Woodrow Wilson was president. Dylan Hartford, senior, said, “Just like when other people uproot their families and move, the kids don’t want to leave their friends so I think it’s good that the Obamas are staying in D.C so that Sasha can stay with her friends and finish high school.”

One question many Americans have about the ex-president regards, how he plans to make money. Already a three-time author, Obama is expected to write a memoir, which could earn him an estimated $15 million. Despite the rumors that Obama is open to a Supreme Court nomination, aids say that Obama stands by a 2014 statement ruling out the “monastic” lifestyle associated with a seat on the high court. “I feel like he should relax because he did so much during his presidency, but I also think that he should continue being active in politics,” said Kelsey Clark, senior.

The fact that Obama is out of office doesn’t mean he isn’t busy. Obama has already kick-started the Obama Foundation, which will take the lead in constructing Obama’s presidential library in Chicago as well as the programs that will emanate from it. Obama will continue to be active in the political realm by standing up for controversial issues like gun control, racial tension, and criminal-justice reform. In his post-presidency life, Obama will also continue doing his two most important jobs: being a good husband and father.

Great article because I know for me that it’s always in the back of my mind what is Obama doing right and his plans after being the leader of the free world. Good job and well written.
