Force for change

For a long time, the Star Wars franchise has supported charities to help better the lives of those in need. They call their movement “A Force for Change.” Now, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, they are putting some major prizes up for grabs. Cam Peer, senior, said, “It’s cool that an organization that makes so much money from movies and shows is helping people that are in need.”

There are three major prizes that people can win by purchasing a $10 raffle ticket. The first major prize is an exclusive visit to the set of the upcoming Han Solo movie, set to release sometime next year. The winner will be the first to see the props and costumes and will also get to meet the directors of the movie. After all that, the winner will also be in the movie.

The next prize is a free night at the Skywalker Ranch. This includes a stay in one of the rooms at the Skywalker Inn, a tour of the property, and a special look at the Star Wars archives.

The last prize is tickets to the premier of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The winner will get to walk the red carpet and have their picture taken with the cast. The winner will then be one of the first people to watch the new movie.

Small prizes will also be given out to those who donate larger sums of money. These prizes include t-shirts, posters, and custom collectibles. The best way to donate is to go to omaze.com.

All money received through the Force for Change movement will go to two charities. The first is UNICEF, which provides humanitarian and developmental help to children and mothers in developing countries. The second charity is Starlight Children’s Foundation. They provide entertainment, education, and technology to children who are severely ill. Griffin Berg, senior, said, “I think it’s a really cool way to give to those in need. Even if you don’t win one of the cool prizes, you still win by helping people.”
