Spartans racing for the gold

It’s a sweep! Both the Pleasant Valley Boys and Girls Track Teams completed their first place finishes at the district state qualifying meet in Eldridge last Thursday. Both teams prevailed over second place finishers from Bettendorf. The meet produced lots of state qualifiers from both teams that have set the teams up for great finishes at the state meet in Des Moines on Thursday through Saturday ( May 18-20).

The PV Girls Track Team had a rough weekend at the Drake Relays, but the girls team have been on a roll through their last two meets. Entering state as MAC Conference and District champions, the girls team is in prime position for a trophy finish this week. IowaRunJumpThrow.com has the girls squad ranked #3 in the power rankings coming into the meet. With a huge number of qualifiers, the girls team will have plenty of opportunities to accumulate some points. State qualifiers include:

100m Dash- Amaria Kirby, Junior

400m Dash- Addie Swanson, Senior, Rachel Tebbe, Senior

1,500m Run- Mallory Lafever, Sophomore

3,000m Run- Maddy Minard, Sophomore, Sydney Lear, Junior

100 Hurdles- Ellie Spelhaug, Junior, Claire Park, Senior

400m Hurdles- Swanson

4x100m Relay- Lexi Neal, Junior, Kirby, Swanson, and Kira Arthofer, Junior

4x200m Relay- Adrea Arthofer, Sophomore, Kirby, Carli Spelhaug, Sophomore, and K. Arthofer

4x400m Relay- Tebbe, Emma Hartz, Junior, C. Spelhaug, and E. Spelhaug

4x800m Relay- Abby Riley, Sophomore, Lafever, Laura Brown, Junior, and Kelsey Ruff, Junior.

Sprint Medley Relay- Kirby, A. Arthofer, K. Arthofer, and Swanson

Distance Medley Relay- Morgan Ramirez, Freshman, Jazmyn Whitfield, Junior, Hartz, and Riley

Shuttle Hurdle Relay- A. Arthofer, C.Spelhaug, Park, and E. Spelhaug

High Jump- Sara Hoskins, Freshman

Long Jump- C. Spelhaug

The Pleasant Valley Boys Track Team also had a great meet at North Scott. The boys team prevailed over rivals Bettendorf, while setting up plenty of first and second place finishes to qualify for state. Currently, the boys team is outside of the top 5 for power rankings, but they could pull out some surprises at the state meet. State qualifiers include:

100m Dash- Arthur Braden, Junior, Collin Ankton, Junior

200m Dash- CJ Carter, Senior, Tony Wells, Senior

400m Dash- Keshaun Baker, Junior

800m Run- Anthony Peña, Junior, Ben Gorman, Senior

1,600m Run- Mark Conway, Senior, Konnor Sommer, Junior

3,200m Run- Sommer

4x100m Relay- Ankton, DaJour Lester-Nichols, Senior, Terry Saul III, Senior, and Braden

4x200m Relay- Braden, Saul III, Lester-Nichols, and Carter

4x400m Relay- Ben Royer, Sophomore, Peña, Jackson Stoos, Junior, and Baker

4x800m Relay- Parker Huhn, Sophomore, Peña, Conway, and Gorman

Distance Medley Relay- Matt Fisher, Sophomore, Wells, Royer, and Huhn

Sprint Medley Relay- Ankton, Braden, Carter, and Baker

Shuttle Hurdle Relay- Lester-Nichols, Ethan Graham, Sophomore. Austin Kress, Senior, and Max Cremer, Senior

High Jump- Cremer

Long Jump- Baker

Discus- Cody Snyder, Senior, Sam Hanna, Junior

Shot Put- Snyder, Hanna

All of the track athletes will leave Wednesday evening for the events starting Thursday morning.
