The Dope Boyz soccer team celebrates after their first victory against a team from Central High School.
“Indoor soccer is the next big thing,” said Grant Zimmerman. A new indoor soccer team has been created by Pleasant Valley’s own Zimmerman and Evan Kilstrom, for the sake of cold weather. The team goes by The Dope Boyz.
The unique part about this group of students is that they don’t have practices, or any real coaches. The coaches of the team are seniors, Mac Morton and Carlos Rivera. They have a schedule to play various QC soccer teams throughout the rest of November and into the beginning of December. When the day comes to play, they show up and have fun. The team only plays one game per week at different locations.
The seniors who participate on the new team are: Zimmerman, Kilstrom, Max Slavens, Max O’Brien, Jared Wiley, Nathan Hamilton, Noah Decker, Brennan Sarver and Ben Royer. Juniors include: George Venzke, Hunter Pieper, Brandon Depover and Matt Mcbeth. “Evan and I got The Dope Boyz together because indoor soccer isn’t very popular but it’s fun and we wanted to play more of it,” Zimmerman explained.

The first game was on Nov. 5 at the River’s Edge. The Dope Boyz played against a team composed of underclassmen form Central High School. The game was close, but The Dope Boyz won their first match.
Decker elaborated on how well the first game went, “The best part of the game was definitely when we scored to make the score 2-1. That’s how we ended up winning,” stated Decker. Decker actually lead the team and scored twice that night.
The students came together during the football off-season to play indoor soccer. Some chose to play for fun, while others chose to play in order to stay on their toes while the season is on pause. Wiley said, “I’m looking forward to our next game so we can hopefully celebrate another victory.”
