The Varsity team lets loose while they prepare for the season ahead.

The Pleasant Valley Girls’ Tennis team dominated their competition on Tuesday, April 2. This was the first meet with both varsity and junior varsity teams playing, as well as the first time the meet was held on their home court.

Both teams had amazing results, with varsity winning 9-0 against the North Scott Lancers and JV cleaning up the courts with a landslide victory. Kayla Nutt, the number one seated player, was happy with the turnout. “It was a strong start and makes the team excited for the season ahead,” she said.

The environment during the matches was filled with smiling faces and cheering fans. Many players felt that this meet was the perfect start to a promising season. Junior Marali Sanchez-Carmona said, “This was the first time that the entire team played which was a great experience. Everyone was able to support and cheer on the players.”

Senior Selena Desir was ready for her debut tennis match and loved the support as well. “We were all so thankful that we could start the season with such a great turnout,” Desir said.

Later that week the team was scheduled to play Muscatine in an away meet, but due to weather conditions it was cancelled. Nevertheless, the varsity team was still able to travel to Johnston High School that same day to play against the Dragons.

The Varsity girls played strong and prevailed with a third place finish at that meet. Their top three doubles pairs all received second place, giving a generous amount of points to the team’s total.

For the remainder of the 2019 season, the team will have meets every Tuesday and Thursday, and they look forward to improving with each match. With a large amount of the season left, the PV Girls Tennis team is ready to continue on with the strong start they have already had this season.
