With seniors taking their finals this week, it is time for a lot of goodbyes. Although it is the end of high school, it is not the end of formal education for many of them.
Many soon to be graduates will be moving on to college after graduating here at PVHS. The senior class has a lot of mixed emotions on what the future holds, but luckily they have the summer to prepare for the next chapter in their lives. Some seniors shared their predictions on what they think college is going to be like, ranging from fears, anticipations, and other expectations.
Senior Khaled Ismail was optimistic when talking about his hopes for college. “I am looking forward to the new experiences I am going to have with the new people that I meet. I am excited to have opportunities I didn’t have before and am excited to make the most of living away from home. The freedom is going to be great,” he said.
While some look forward to freedom, the lack of order makes some seniors stressed. This is just one of the worries going into college. Reece Spangler expressed his thoughts on the topic. “I selected the random option for my roommate next year so that definitely is a fear of mine. Living with someone that I don’t know for a whole year is scary to think about I’m also worried about the difficulty of the classes,” he said.
While it may seem scary, some seniors welcome the challenge and have set goals for themselves. Anna Griffin shared what she wants to accomplish early in college. “I want to expand my talents but also find a major or career that is my calling. I know that there will be times that I fail but I have to choose to work harder. It will be difficult at first being away from family and adjusting to the new environment but it will only get easier with time,” she said.
Overall the senior class is ready to take on the challenge of college. For most, it has been awhile since they experienced a new start–college will certainly be a big adjustment this fall. Because it is new, there are some unknowns, which can scare a few, but the opportunities in college far outweigh the fears.
