Misconception of conservatives

Politics is always a dividing issue when it comes to the American public. These political parties exist for a reason, as there can be different interpretations of what is right; however, sometimes each side is criticized for what they believe in, and there can be misconceptions of what each party believes for some that are politically uneducated. In the current interesting political crisis, there are a lot of misconceptions about what the Republican party entails. These views tend to be generalizations toward the entire party, and aren’t necessarily true at all. Most of the time these include racist, homophobic, and misogynistic remarks about people and their well-being.

These remarks are usually associated with the behaviors of President Donald Trump, who is the current “face” of the GOP. “It’s sad because most of his views aren’t necessarily Republican,” says senior Claire Thomsen. “Trump just gets rid of anything that makes him mad.” These views of Trump don’t necessarily reflect every member of the party..

While Republicans believe that there needs to be tighter immigration laws, they don’t necessarily believe that all Muslims are terrorists, which is the view that a lot of liberals tend to have. “People should be more open minded about people’s views,” says senior Cassidy Kilcoin, “It’s a problem that some people stick to their views so much that they don’t look at the alternative.”

While the Republican party has been around for hundreds of years, there hasn’t been more hate for this group of people until now, and it mostly stems from uneducated liberals associating groups like the KKK and Neo-Nazis with the party, which obviously isn’t the majority of the party. This newfound hate for the Republican party within our generation is becoming bigger and bigger with the rise of the Trump presidency; however, hopefully liberals learn to be more open minded about other views.
