Chapter 53: Morgan Miller
Though sophomore Morgan Miller takes part in several activities, a central part of her high school experience has been running.
As a member of both the cross country team and the track team, Miller competes in the 5000 meter run in the fall and the 3000 meter run in the spring. With a 5000 meter personal record of 22:23, Miller is an experienced runner.
Unfortunately, Miller has been slowed by injuries. She suffered a stress fracture her freshman year during track and a hamstring strain during cross-country her sophomore season. However, her races aren’t the sole reason she runs.
On why she runs cross-country and track, Miller says, “I like the camaraderie of the team and the support of the coaches. [I also] enjoy exploring new trails and routes. I like doing hard workouts that I didn’t think I could do and then being able to finish them. [Finally,] I enjoy seeing my times improve with all of my hard work.”
However, Miller does a lot more with her time than cross-country and track. For example, she plays in the band along with her sister, junior Miranda Miller. For concert band, Miller plays trumpet in Wind Symphony. This band is the hardest to audition into. This is especially impressive considering that she is a sophomore, and therefore has had less experience than many other band members.
When it comes to academics, Miller’s favorite classes are Honors English and Spanish 3. She enjoys learning a new language, and the challenge that Spanish brings. After high school, Miller plans to combine her love of English and running by double majoring in exercise science and English at an undecided university.
Outside of these activities, Miller likes to read, write, and play with her two cats Crookshanks and Crystal. She also enjoys listening to Ed Sheeran and Rachel Platten. Her favorite restaurant is Pancheros, and her favorite food is apple pie.
Though this brief of an article cannot do her justice, her running, musical talent, and career aspirations are just a few aspects of what make Miller an exceptionally multifaceted individual.
