Chapter 68: Arra Cottrell
Junior Arra Cottrell has had success at Pleasant Valley within a variety of activities, including varsity volleyball. She has been playing volleyball for a total of eight years. Though her success within athletics is no small feat, Cottrell remains humble about her accomplishments.
In addition to playing volleyball for the school, Cottrell also plays volleyball outside of school. Her commitment to the sport has been reflected in the hundreds of hours spent training not only for PV’s varsity team but also for her traveling team, Platform Elite.
While those involved in PV sports are up-to-date with her success in sports, many do not know that Cottrell is also involved in coaching volleyball on her own time. She coaches ten and 11-year-olds through her traveling volleyball team.
Though she is only a junior this year, Cottrell has plans to attend school somewhere in South Carolina to play volleyball. Her preparation for her future is an important aspect of her high school career, and she takes a wide variety of classes that challenge her in order to prepare for her future. Her favorite classes consist of English, 3D Art and Design and Biology. She enjoys theses courses thoroughly and wants to pursue a career as a doctor.
Outside of school Cottrell enjoys spending time with friends. Though she is a successful athlete, Cottrell still admits that her favorite Whitey’s Ice Cream flavor is cookies and cream.
Additionally, Cottrell has a family with whom she enjoys spending time. Cottrell and her brother, Porter, were both born and raised in Iowa. Porter Cottrell now attends college in Michigan, where he continues to inspire Arra as he runs track and field.
Though she remains humble, Cottrell contributes to the success of Pleasant Valley in several ways. As a hardworking and committed student-athlete, Cottrell’s efforts at Pleasant Valley should not go unnoticed.
