Chapter 10: Gavin Smith

Who has gone to a cross country and track meet before? Those that have, have seen a sophomore named Gavin Smith. Smith has competed on the varsity team for both sports, and continues to excel as he gets older. He was born in the quad cities, and has lived here his whole life. PV hasn’t always been his home though, since he switched to PV in the 5th grade. Smith has many friends from school and his personality helped him gain those friends. An outgoing personality is a great quality to have in a friend. Smith is known to be trustworthy, kind, funny, and athletic.

In addition to running for track and cross country, he likes to spend his free time hanging with friends or playing video games. These two activities are his go to for an after school activity.  Abdul Malik, sophomore, said, I’ve known Gavin personally since 8th grade and he honestly is the most kind and truthful person I have met throughout my education in PV”. Malik also stated, “He is very respectful of different opinions when it comes to any topic. As he and I differ when it comes to religion, but nonetheless he has been so mindful when it comes to what I find offensive and/or what I find acceptable. Something I feel people in general lack nowadays”.  All of Smith’s friends agree with what Malik had to say.

Along with being known as an amazing and loyal friend to anyone, he has grown up in a unique family. Smith has grown up in an average sized family of five. With one sister and one brother, his sister is unique though. She was adopted from Ukraine, and also deals with a personality disorder. “Sometimes it gets hard, but recently she’s been doing better”, said Smith. Even though it may be hard at times, Smith always finds a way past the challenges. That’s what people do when they are a friend and family member someone can always count on.
