Lesson 4: What they could only begin to explain

When we were little our parents brought us into this world innocent and full of life. We didn’t know about the bad things in the universe and we all focused on the smallest and happiest of things, because like I said that’s really all we knew of. Gosh do I really just try to focus on the good in life. But  I, personally, get caught up in those “what if” type of thoughts. What if I would have gone to bed earlier? What if my dad had never cheated on my mom? What if… what if. Do you ever catch yourself asking these questions? Anyways my whole point here is that focusing on the good things, the happy things in life isn’t something that we can be taught. It is a mentality, an attitude that requires total perspective and a laid-back frame of mind. But you see, this generation seems to always “be on their feels” or whatever. I personally think that we ALL need to grow a pair and face tomorrow with an open-mind. Easier said than done, I know. For real though our entire age group has this “woah is me” attitude and believes that whenever something in their life takes a turn for the worse it’s the end of the world. When in all reality their are people physically struggling to survive everyday.  Sure the path of life is bumpy and we are allowed to hurt and suffer. But when this attitude is reoccuring it’s time to reevaluate yourself.

This year I started to notice how cynical I have become, how cold-hearted I have been in the past and how I really do not to let go of a grudge easily. I don’t really know why I just suddenly realized this, I guess I just woke up one morning and didn’t like what I saw looking back at me in the mirror. Admitting your weaknesses, even if it’s just to yourself, is never easy. But since I have reflected on the point at hand it has been easier for me to move forward in certain situations and just let it all go. No one wants to wake up every morning in a funk that just continuously brings down your morale. That is why I pressure you to truly reflect over what your approach on life has been lately. Really ask yourself how you’ve been acting and if you are proud of the person you are everyday. It’s easy to get caught up with the mainstream attitude when all our generation does is post their feelings, and everything else that’s going on in their life, on Twitter or Facebook. Social media accounts are not the place to be seeking attention for your problems, but everyone seems to do it anyway. Happiness comes from within when you truly treasure and value your self respect. When all you focus on is being trendy and posting your personal issues out for the whole world to see how can you really respect yourself?

I know our parents didn’t want this superficial and sad world for us. That’s why I’m here asking you to help this generation make a change. Think about your life with a new perspective, every single day. Wake up in the morning and tell yourself you will work on your weaknesses. Truly understand that when life is hard, it will get better. Really try and smile because life’s too short to feel sorry for yourself all the time. Change your attitude and adjust your mentality when you aren’t completely satisfied with life. Don’t tweet about that boy who is messing with your head. And most of all learn that joy comes from within. I know this is a lot to ask and it’s all a lot to think about, but getting caught up in the things that don’t go our way isn’t how we should spend our time here on earth. We get to be a part of this life and I say we spend it staying positive and being happy.
