Chapter 19: Caitlin Crome
Caitlin Crome is a freshman at Pleasant Valley, but she has already made a huge impact around the school. She is an extremely friendly and outgoing individual, and she has made sure to become very involved with as much as she can.
Athletics are a huge part of Crome’s life. She was a member of the varsity softball team, was a varsity Platinum member, and is currently on the track team. She has been playing softball since she was seven years old, dancing since she was two, and running track since seventh grade.
Although she has only had one high school season with each team; Crome has already seen a large amount of success. The softball team finished their season as state runner-ups, Platinum placed second in jazz and third in pom at state, and she won her heat in the 200 meters at the track MAC conference meet.
Interestingly, Crome said she was unable to pick a favorite sport. She explained how it depends on what season she is currently in. She stays busy by practicing all three sports throughout the year, but she becomes especially focused on whichever one is in-season.
Crome has gained a lot of skills through her experiences with her sports, especially time management skills and the ability to work with others. She said, “Each game is different, and you really learn to work with all different types of people.”
However, her love of sports has already led her to a possible career choice. After receiving an injury, she was required to go to a physical therapist as part of her recovery. She said, “I really got to know a lot of the staff there, and I thought it was a cool environment. I’ve always wanted to do something that would involve sports, so it seems like a good option to me.”
Clearly, athletics are a huge part of Crome’s life. She has made valuable friendships and created lasting memories. Her sports have helped her grow into an excellent leader for others. Platinum teammate, Kinsey Paulson, a senior, said, “Caitlin is a great role model to her little sister, and all the young dancers at our studio. She is kind and very talented.”
