Chapter 22: Bailey Sorensen
When thinking back to the sophomore year, most can recall being carefree and content, but for Bailey Sorensen, a sophomore at Pleasant Valley High School, she has her future set to a T.
Although she is undecided on which college, Sorensen is planning, after high school, to study to become a neonatal nurse. After graduating from a 4-year college, she intends to join the Peace Corps. To prepare, she has taken necessary academic steps in order to secure her future.
“I just started taking all honors classes this year, and didn’t take any last year, so I decided I wouldn’t do any sports until I’m used to taking more advanced classes,” Sorensen says. Even though she’s started to load up her workload at school and eliminate time-consuming sports, Sorensen says “Next year I’m planning on doing cross country if I pass this year with good grades.”.
When she’s not busy, Sorensen likes to volunteer at Down By the Creek, an animal shelter in Long Grove, Iowa. Along with being a good samaritan, some of her hobbies include running, reading, hiking, and swimming.
“Some of my goals in life are to travel and get a wide array of knowledge about different cultures,” says Sorensen, “I want to travel to Serengeti, Barcelona, and Machu Picchu in Peru.
Although she has a long way to go in completing her high school chapter and begin taking on her life goals, Sorensen’s determination is unwavering. “Happiness is something that you have to put effort into and work for or you’ll never have it”
