Chapter 23: Corea Conner

Corea Conner is an African American freshman at Pleasant Valley High School. She’s been going to Pleasant Valley for a while now. At age two, Conner was adopted by a white family and has been living with them ever since.“I think if I was asked what the most interesting thing about me is, being adopted to a white family would definitely be it”.

“I consider them my real parents and love them very much”. Conner feels belonged to her family and enjoys their company. They encourage her to participate in sports and have always helped her with school homework and studying.

Conner is involved in many activities including band and choir. She enjoys singing during her free time. “If I’m not busy with school homework, then you’ll probably find me singing. It’s something I really enjoy.”

Conner enjoys small details that brighten up her day. “I just really like it when people say hi to me in the hallway. Some people I don’t even know give me a small smile when we make eye contact in the hallway, that just makes my day better.”Conner thinks student should smile more at each other because it can have such a significant impact on someone’s day.

“My dream city to travel to one day would probably be Paris. I’ve always wanted to visit France because I think it’s such a beautiful country”. Conner has never been to France but really hopes to visit it one day.

Hanging out with friends is something Conner likes to do on weekends. “I like to be surrounded by my friends and just hang out all together. I hang out with them most weekends and it is just so enjoyable”. She usually goes shopping with them which is something they both share in common. Her favorite place to go to is the mall.

When she’s not hanging out with friends, Conner is usually studying. She hopes to maintain good grades at school and to stay involved throughout her school years she has remaining.
