Chapter 54: Savanna Clements

Senior Savanna Clements is an artist who expresses her unique talent in more ways than just one. Growing up in the Quad Cities with one sister, she has found many interesting ways to do what she loves. One of her most favorite hobbies she saves for her free time is hair and makeup. “I start and can’t stop, it’s like an escape from reality. I can be really creative with my looks and express myself through it,” said Clements. She loves seeing the transformation from start to finish and thinks it is always very satisfying and stress-relieving to see the result of her work.

Clements’s favorite season is fall. She loves the breathtaking scenery of the orange and red leaves and enjoys how it’s never too hot nor too cold. When she is not enjoying the weather outside, she is inside, working on her true passion. She has always found hair and makeup to be extremely unreal and tries to better her artsy skills with each style or look she does. From practicing on herself over many years, she now loves to do others hair and makeup for school dances or special occasions and loves trying new and challenging things whenever she can in her free time.  

She also spends her time working at the Palmer Hills retirement home where she loves getting to know the elders and helping them in whatever way possible. “I have worked there for three years,” Clements explains. “I have gotten so close to the residents and wouldn’t change my job for the world,” Clements said that she aspires to become a trauma nurse but also said that she isn’t exactly sure of where she would like to go for college. However, she knows one thing for sure; the medical field fascinates her.

Clements has attended Pleasant Valley since her kindergarten year. Her favorite teacher was Mrs. Roseman, her study hall advisor at the Junior High. “She and I got along really well, she was such a sweet lady. She helped me through all of my problems and gave the best advice,” said Clements. Clements works very hard in school and tries to strive for her best in everything she does. Anatomy and Physiology is her favorite subject because of her interest in nursing. Clements also explained that she loves the challenge of the class and finds that it sparks her interest every day.

Clements is an amazingly skilled, passionate, and hard-working artist, and her electric personality rubs off on all.
