Chapter 72: Kole Sommer

16-year-old Junior Kole Sommer is a track and cross country runner, an aspiring astrophysicist, and may be the only person in Pleasant valley high school that likes running the mile. “It’s almost the perfect distance.” Sommer said, “and if you train hard enough it’s like you can sprint the entire time.” He finished 5th in the Sterling race. Unfortunately, training over the summer has been challenging, Sommer sprained his ankle which put a halt to his running. 

Determined to continue practicing his favorite sport that he started when he was 5, Sommer has “Grinded back into shape” and looks forward to continue his running career in college. Sommer doesn’t know exactly where he wants to go for college but he hopes to study Astrology and explore the United States outside of Iowa.

He takes challenging classes like pre-calc and AP physics to work toward his goal. The “ideal future” for him is to “hopefully be a rich astrophysicist with a wife and one or two kids, undecided about that for right now.” 

He has a large family with a total of six people.His two older brothers are currently at the University of Iowa and his younger sister is also a runner at PV. “I can’t choose my favorite sibling,” Sommer commented, “They’re all awesome and I like them all equally.” 

As for himself, Sommer is pretty relaxed most of the time. Besides running miles he enjoys hanging out with friends, playing video games, and eating at Village Inn.
