Chapter 3: Scotty Jones

While many people aren’t familiar with the name Christian Jones, Scotty has a fuller meaning to his character. Growing up as a child, Jones had everything his heart desired: a great family, a dog, and many other things. But the one thing his heart didn’t desire was moving. Throughout his childhood, Jones moved five times, from Wichita, Kansas to Ann Arbor, Michigan. While living in different places was cool, making new friends every time became difficult.

He wouldn’t have been able to get through it without his loving sisters even though he sometimes wonders what it would be like to have a brother. “As a unit, my family has been through a lot, but we have always come out stronger because of it,” says Jones. Through it all Scotty and his family have been able to settle down at PV for a few years.

High School has been pretty normal for Jones; while he enjoys hanging with friends, being apart of band has created further opportunities such as Colt Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (a competition based marching band over the summer where they practice for 12 hours a day). He is also involved in Boy Scouts and has even received his Eagle Scout in 2014.

What has been getting Jones through high school and motivating him for his future is the quote, “If you can dream it, you can be it. If you believe it, you can do it”. With this, Scotty hopes to leave an impact on society and as well as on his field, hopefully doing so by becoming a Biomedical Engineer specializing in nanotechnology and cellular regeneration while attending The Georgia Institute of Technology next fall. “I’ve looked at high school as an opportunity to help me achieve something great and to attend a great university.” But as a lover of food and cooking, he hopes to stay in the warm state of Georgia and live somewhere with many good restaurants.

Reflecting on himself, Jones says, “Meeting societal standards has always been a challenge for me. Whether it has been socially or academically I have always strived to be the best I can be. Sometimes I have fallen short, but I use these experiences to move me forward and improve myself.” Jones likes to take society and the world with a grain of salt. Being able to make a bad situation into a good one is exactly what he strives for. He strongly believes everyone should be themselves and leave an impact, big or small.
