Chapter 18: Katelyn Jensen
“Do whatever it is that you like as long as there is good food involved.” This is the life motto of Pleasant Valley junior, Katelyn Jensen. Her motto probably explains why she has enjoyed working at Whitey’s Ice Cream shop for the past few years.
Jensen was born in Utah, and ever since she left the state she has wanted to go back. She plans to attend Brigham Young University, where she will major in photography and minor in French. Jensen would love to move to France, to live in the rural mountainous regions and become a freelance photojournalist. She has been able to speak French since she was a youth.
At the age of seven, Jensen learned to play the piano, it was more forced on to her, but day by day she found herself falling in love with the extravagant sounds of music that she learned to play. After many years of polishing up her craft, Jensen now teaches lessons and composes her very own music. She’s taught all of her younger siblings how to play the piano. She believes that it is her job to pour something back into them, something that will stick with them for the rest of their lives. Jensen is the oldest of six girls, and loves being a mother-like figure.
Jensen never grew up playing sports, but instead she grew up reading and studying works of art. Her favorite person throughout history is Leonardo Da Vinci. She says that she would love to have a conversation with him about his childhood, inspirations, and what motivated him to continue his career at such a young age when he was facing criticism.
From Da Vinci she has learned optimism, and that it is best to do what you want because in the end people are going to judge you regardless.
