The Sept. 26 presidential debate with Democratic and Republican candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, respectively, resulted in a tumultuous Tuesday morning. The debate was lively with politics and policies flying. According to a poll ran by our PV Publications Twitter account, Clinton won the debate 64% to 36% out of 61 votes. Other polls such as CNBC, Time, Fox News, and Fortune show Trump in the lead, while CNN polls have Clinton in the lead. Of course, these polls are to be taken with a grain of salt, as they do not record or verify if the voter actually watched the debate.
The 3 major topics discussed Monday night were “America’s Direction,” “Achieving Prosperity,” and “Securing America.” Each candidate received a maximum of two minutes per answer. Other topics mentioned include Stop-and-Frisk, a random stop and search used in large cities which lowered crime rate significantly in the cities where it was used. The No Fly List was also discussed with its removal of rights regardless of crime and the legal actions required to reverse the action. Several topics were regarding the cybersecurity of America and the use of Clinton’s private email server, for which Clinton admitted, “I made a mistake using a private server.” Even the birther issue surrounding President Obama’s legitimacy was brought up. When the aspect of Black Lives Matter and race relations was mentioned, Clinton commented, “Race remains a significant problem in our country.” Trump, when asked about retraining police officers, defended the officers saying, “Right now, our police are afraid to do anything.” Taxes and tax plans were discussed with both candidates slamming their opponent’s plans. When the issue of candidate tax returns was addressed, Trump replied, “I’ll release my taxes when Clinton releases the 30,000 emails.” He also replied, “You don’t learn much from tax returns, you learn from financial disclosures.” The disclosures are located on his website.

Sadly, I don’t think either candidate listened to the 2 minute rule
