An enchanted evening is a success

After gloriously winning the 2016 homecoming game against the Davenport West Falcons, the Pleasant Valley Spartans piled into the school cafeteria for another great homecoming dance.

This year, thanks to the Social Committee, the cafeteria was transformed from an ordinary school lunchroom into something spectacular, complete with bird cages, lanterns, and light-up trees.

“We all got together and looked through magazines and websites until we found [a theme] that we agreed on,” says Kathryn Buchter, advisor of the Social Committee. “We considered the past years’ themes to make sure we don’t duplicate.”

Another defining factor of homecoming is the music. In the past years, some students were bored with the non-sing-along remixed beats, but this year the atmosphere was different.

“I liked all the different types of music they were playing,” says senior Cameron Blunk. “I was walking into the dance with Enrique Iglesias playing and walking out with ‘Uptown Funk.’ It was great!”

This year, the cafeteria seemed more full than ever before. Around 725 tickets were sold according to Buchter.

“I liked how there seemed to be a lot more people there than usual,” adds Blunk. “I saw more freshman and sophomores than juniors and seniors, which is surprising.”

Overall, this year’s dance was a wonderful evening, whether it was one’s first or last homecoming. As always, a big thanks to all of those who were able to make it happen!
