Where will the shooter start this time in the ALICE drill?
Last week the ALICE drill the shooter entered through the office. He waved at the ladies, they opened the door, and he pulled his starter gun from his jeans. Thats how fast it can happen. This could realistically happen very easily. The shooter could do the same thing, and be into the school no problem. But that was last week.
Starting this week there has been a table put in between the two sets of doors outside the office. Parents, or visitors that need to drop off something for a student are asked to leave the item on the table for the student to come get later whenever they have time. They never enter the office.
“It’s not about keeping people out of the building, its about limiting the amount of people that come in. To be let into the office now, parents or other workers have to call and set up an appointment.” commented Rebecca Hinman, one of the ladies in the office.
As for students that are late to class, or don’t have a first or second period, they have to show the ladies in the office their student ID to be let it. Kyle McDermott is one of those students, “It is a little inconvenient, but it helps with safety so it is understandable”
As for parents, some have been confused about the table, and new procedures. But after being told of the table, and new guidelines, they all have been understanding and willing to cooperate.
After last week many of the people in the office, and other staff, realized how insecure the main office was. “It was very scary, we didn’t have any time to react”, stated Mrs.Hinman. With the new protocol the ladies in the office all feel a little safer, and the table works great.

It may be a little inconvenient but I agree it’ll help out a lot taking these extra precautions
