The movie “A Star is Born” has been sweeping audiences’ attention across the nation. The star of the cast, Stefani Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, is even being predicted to win an Oscar for her performance.
Since it hit the theaters, “A Star is Born” has been the talk of social media. Its 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes sparked interest in all lovers of film. Germanotta’s acting played a large role in the attention for the movie. Though she has been in other films and guest-starred in “American Horror Story”, Germanotta’s role as Ally is giving her the most praise.
The movie focuses on an already successful musician, Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper), who falls in love with Ally, a struggling artist on the brink of abandoning her career. Maine provides Ally with musical opportunities and helps her gain a fan base. As Ally’s career grows, their relationship weakens and Maine is left to battle mental hardships.
Reviews and fans were enthusiastic about the truthful portrayal of musical careers. The movie was able to show that these lifestyles are not as glamorous as they seem, especially with Cooper’s character. However, the film is also able to show the beauty of talented artists being inspired by each other.
The musical aspect of “A Star is Born” also contributed to it’s raving reviews. Germanotta’s talent was showcased, and Cooper’s was newly appreciated. The mix of genres was also highlighted with Germanotta’s character leaning into pop music and Cooper’s character focusing on alternative country music. There is something for everyone in this readapted film.
As sophomore student Maggie Peterson said, “The music was high quality and made me want to see more.” Peterson claimed that she found the music to be similar to The Greatest Showman soundtrack, which was also a big hit.
Vashi Chintalapalli, a senior at Pleasant Valley, was very enthusiastic about film. He has already seen the movie and describes it as a refreshing take on the traditional story. The movie showcased Cooper’s debut into filmmaking. As Chintalapalli said, “The movie slightly modernizes but keeps the first iteration theme of addressing the positive and negative aspects of show business.”
While Chintalapalli disagrees with the movie being a masterpiece, he does give credit to the excellent cinematography and musical performances. He stated, “The movie draws us in with its captivating musical sequences and electrifying performance of Gaga and Cooper.”
