On Oct. 3, choir students throughout the Quad Cities joined together for Metrofest, or the Metro Choral Festival. This performance was held here in the Pleasant Valley High School gymnasium. Students from PV’s Concert Choir, Women’s Ensemble, and Chamber Choir participated in the event. They had the opportunity to work with students from all of the Iowa Quad City High Schools, directed by nationally recognized choral directors.
These choirs were split into groups that sang selections including some of the Opus Honor Choir and Iowa All-State literature. Luke Johnson, from Iowa Western Community College, directed the “Opus Choir”; Wartburg College’s Dr. Nicki Toliver directed the “Treble Choir,” and Dr. Bob Demaree, of UW-Platteville, directed the “All-State Choir.” Rehearsal began during school, and students prepared throughout the day to get ready for the rest of the evening.
All three choirs came together for a performance as well. The mass choir sang America the Beautiful and Battle Hymn of the Republic.
“Everyone was super friendly and our rehearsal went very smoothly. I loved being able to host and meet new people,” commented Roshni Nair, junior.
