For many students, Netflix, among many other streaming sites, provides a way to relax from homework and the stress of school. Some may refer to this pleasure/addiction as binge watching. Abbey Schaller, senior, says, “Life without Netflix would be frustrating.” Since fall finally arrived on Sept. 22, it’s time to create a list full of romantic comedies, horror, Sci-Fi, and T.V. shows to either catch up on, rewatch, or watch for the first time.
Here’s a walk through of T.V. shows and movies coming to your Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Now and Hulu accounts this October.
HBO Now will be streaming “Deadpool.” Ryan Reynolds continues to create laughter in this superhero/villain comedy. It portrays a man who, after being experimented on, is left looking scary and carrying special healing powers. The movie shows Deadpool getting revenge on the man who made him disfigured.
Coming to Netflix is everyone’s favorite classic, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Solange Bolger, sophomore, says, “I’m so excited.” Luckily, if this title doesn’t ring a bell, it will this month. Yelling “Bueller” the next time someone is absent in class is a must as well. In this 80s comedy, Ferris Bueller skips the day from school to stay home and eventually takes on the city with his friend and girlfriend to play games and shenanigans.
Since one classic is never enough, “Titanic” is also coming to Netflix. Leonardo DiCaprio has stolen almost everyone’s heart, so taking it back to his 90s days is a must. “Titanic” follows one of the greatest love stories of all time, where a young boy and girl fall in love on a cruise ship, only to be distraught when their ship hits an iceberg and starts to take on water.
Although catching up on the rest of the series may be required, Amazon Prime and Hulu are welcoming, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” this October. In case choosing between team Peeta or Gale hasn’t been an issue, watch “The Hunger Games”, “Catching Fire”, and “Mockingjay Part 1” before proceeding to watch this one. Part 2 follows Katniss and her team scurrying their way through tunnels and traps to try and defeat President Snow once and for all.
Throwing it all the way back to 1961, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” will be making a reappearance on Netflix as well. In this classic, Audrey Hepburn plays a young woman in New York City who aspires to be beautiful and wealthy. She takes interest in an older man living in the same building as her, and they start to become closer.
These are just five short summaries of some of the shows and movies coming to streaming sites in October. Others to look out for on Netflix include, “Kung Fu Panda 3”, “Black Mirror”, “The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show”, and “American Horror Story: Hotel.” Amazon Prime will be showcasing, “Bowling for Columbine”, “Pride and Prejudice”, “The Devil’s Advocate”, and “Zombie Nation”.
Let the stress of tomorrow go by streaming today, after homework is done of course. Schaller added, “I absolutely can’t stand commercials, so without Netflix I wouldn’t even watch T.V.” With so many advantages to streaming, including some which are commercial free, students are free to watch a plethora of movies and shows right at the tips of their fingers. With that being said, let the binging begin.
