Brady Sexson loves the rush of performing in front of an audience and participates in many extracurriculars to get his fill.
Sexson started performing in plays at the age of ten. His first musical was “Aladdin Jr.” as part of the ensemble. Sexson played in Pleasant Valley’s band during his freshman and sophomore year but then decided he wanted his main focus to be in choir and musicals.
Sexson grew up in Bettendorf, alongside one brother, and was introduced to the world of theatre by a friend at a young age. It was then that he caught the acting bug which sparked his passion for being on stage. He started performing for Pleasant Valley his freshman year as a member of the ensemble and playing supporting roles. Currently, he is in the production “A Wrinkle in Time” as The Red-Eyed Man and said it has been one of his favorite high school experiences thus far.
Sexson does not only participate in musicals and plays, but also enjoys singing as a baritone in the Chamber Choir. This artist is also in Jazz Choir as a part of the group “Jazz Etc.” He explained that his favorite part about Chamber Choir and Jazz Choir is the payoff of the hard work he puts in.“The excitement of learning songs and when it fits together perfectly at the end is breathtaking. The events are also super fun to perform at with all of our friends.”
This year Sexson made the All-State Choir for the first time. The challenging audition process consumed most of his time for months on end, as he practiced day and night to reach his goals. “Everyone practiced since the audition music came out in May until the final auditions in October,” Sexson commented. “It was such a good learning experience for me and I met so many cool people all around the state. I was so glad I took the risk because it taught me a lot about how far hard work really goes.”
Sexson also loves to do photography in his free time because it allows him to express himself in multiple forms and styles. He loves taking pictures of the outdoors, his friends, his dog, clothes, art, and so much more. Sexson plans to attend college on the west coast because of the sunny weather and the extensive amount of opportunities. His dream is to attend UCLA while majoring in Performing Arts.
Sexson diligently works to achieve his goals in the theatre programs, Chamber Choir, and Jazz Choir. He plans to continue his dream of performing throughout high school and beyond. We look forward to seeing his name in lights someday.
