Social Media evolves every day, changing new things and connecting people around the world. Recently the popular mobile photo-sharing app, Instagram, has changed to “Finstagram.” A new flip on the viewing of pictures and an insight into a teenager’s true life. Instead of posting photos where the pimples are edited out and smiles are prominent, Finstagram shows the true emotion, beauty, and struggle of high school and college students. As Google describes these media accounts…
Finstagram (Finsta) is student’s fake (or second) Instagram account. Students, usually girls, get a second Instagram account along with their real Instagrams, to post silly pictures or videos.
Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them either publicly or privately on the app.
Senior Natalie Adams says, “ My Finsta consists of ugly pictures of myself and me making funny comments about getting mad at my mom.” A lot of people look at Finstagram as a way to vent or tell things how they are. It is like a journal or diary to express the struggles of high school. These accounts are usually set private and for only the user’s friends to see. But because of the privacy, many think Finsta can be used for cyberbullying, senior Grace Venzke states, “I don’t think finsta is a form of cyber bullying at all. Actually, on the contrary, I feel it lets you be yourself more and no one judges.” Instagram, on the other hand, is the picture perfect, yet ‘fake’ pictures teens post for their grandmas to see. Venzke says, “With Finsta I can be myself more and it’s more personal but Instagram is still great because I get to share my social life.”
As social media is evolving and changing into new things, teens are using these apps to share their lives and their thoughts. Within a month there will probably be a new update or app to share thoughts and emotions. That new update right now is Finstagram, and the world won’t stop talking about it.
