Dancing with the Studs is a fun and exciting way to bring in cans for the Hunger Drive. Dancers and cheerleaders pick a male partner to do a dance with. The teams make up a one-minute routine and perform it in front of the entire school at an assembly. Whoever has the most energetic and fun routine is the winner.
Rebecca Abdullah, junior member of student council, stated, “The reason our school does Dancing with the Studs is to kick off the Hunger Drive and get students involved with our school and community.”
Pleasant Valley High School began Dancing with the Studs two years ago. Since then, the number of cans brought in has increased tremendously. It’s a great way to give back to our community in a fun way.
According to Adrienne Swanson, freshman, “Watching the Dancing with the Studs routines was a really cool way to make students aware of the Hunger Drive. It was really funny and also a neat way to make all students involved.”
Seven couples competed for the win: Claire Park and Dajour Lester, Marie DeLessio and Jarrin Flores, Gracie Wilson and Ryan Harper, Samina Abdullah and Vincent Gnad, Lauren Cramer and Zach Pilger, Maggie Cory and Terry Saul, and finally Rebecca Abdullah and Nick Yanek.
The winner of the 2016 Dancing with the Studs was Samina Abdullah and Vincent Gnad. They were also the Homecoming Queen and King this year. Their routine was very enthusiastic. Students were standing and applauding as soon as their routine was over.
Abdullah explained, “I believe Dancing with the Studs will continue on for a long time. All the students love watching it, and it truly does get everyone involved. It makes us all proud to be a part of Pleasant Valley.”
