Both are beautiful

Both+are+beautiful

Mondays have created a trend of laziness, but have also encouraged girls to embrace their inner beauty and go a day without makeup. Many young girls enjoy wearing makeup and being creative with enhancing their beauty. Other girls enjoy waking up with a fresh face and keeping it that way. At Pleasant Valley, the female population is about half and half. Whether you wear a full face of makeup or stick to the natural freckles, all forms of beauty are beyond beautiful. As a teenage girl, society has implanted a social standard that it is required for young females to wear makeup. Senior, Anna Grace Molinari says, “A lot of girls wear makeup so I feel like I have to also.” With this standard it has created a self esteem where girls cannot be comfortable without makeup.

The fear of being seen with a bare face is real and it is seen in many high school girls’ lives. Society has changed the playful makeovers into a necessity before leaving the house; covering up what is truly a young girl’s face. Out of 85 females, 65% feel more comfortable with makeup and only 35% feel more comfortable without makeup. Does this show that society has set a standard? Absolutely, being seen without makeup is often viewed as lazy or uninterested. Which has also created the No Makeup Monday, as Mondays are dreadful the urge for makeup is not necessary. But not wearing makeup should not be seen as lazy, but more as content. Content with natural looks and self esteem.

No Makeup Monday should be changed to No Makeup Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, etc. A view of natural beauty and self acceptance is more important to recognize rather than laziness. Senior, Bekka Falker says, “I feel fine without makeup and it takes time, so I’d rather sleep in.” Instead of No Makeup days, there should be Makeup days where girls can show off their talent and creativity. Molinari says, “Wearing makeup makes me feel more confident in myself.” Yet these days have been created, and every individual girl creates them as she walks out the door. No matter what day; a day for makeup or a day for being natural, we are beautiful everyday.
