A letter to the seniors

Seniors+come+together+and+pose+on+a+Hawaiian+themed+spirit+day.
Nate Martell
Seniors come together and pose on a Hawaiian themed spirit day.

To the Class of 2020,

Strength has shown amidst our senior class now more than ever before. We have waited for the last 12 years to experience many lasts. Unfortunately, many of those were taken away from us too soon as we realize March 13 was the last day of our senior year of high school. We never thought we would dream of going to school, however we do not always appreciate what we have until it is taken away.

Even though our high school experience strays from the norm, we have to remember what brought us here. Four years ago, our naive selves walked into this school and were eager to finally be high schoolers. We had no idea that these four crucial years would shape each and every one of us, creating some of the strongest leaders the world will see.

Who would have thought that we would soon become some of the best athletes, musicians, artists and leaders in the state? Our class can proudly say that when we have an opinion, we voice it. Looking back on the last four years, we have shown unity and passion through the toughest of battles.

We experienced the rise of school gun violence, and we fought back with a school-wide walkout and the infamous backpack rule. We came together to honor Will Kohn and his family in a time of need. We banded together to protest against the removal of strawberry milk. We even managed to manifest a record-breaking number of snow days, and so much more. Our class has shown nothing but leadership and dedication, but this is only the beginning.

As we continue our journey, we must remember that we cannot stop working. Unfortunately, beyond high school people do not get “lucky,” they work hard to achieve their goals. As we enter a world beyond high school, do not rely on luck. Rely on your work ethic, drive, and goals, and do not stop until you achieve them.

We may not get the chance to say our final goodbyes to our friends and teachers who made a great impact on our lives. But in times like these, the best way to say goodbye is to remember all the highs and lows of high school and hold onto them. Hold onto them so hard, and do not let go. The Covid Class of 2020 may have just earned the weirdest nickname yet, but this experience has only brought us closer together. We must do what we do best: be strong leaders.

Signed,

Your fellow PV seniors
