The first performance of the concert band season was December 5th, Monday night. Here, the four bands of PVHS, the Tuba Christmas ensemble, and a percussion ensemble entertained a large audience during the 56th annual Cider and Pretzel concert. Each year, this concert kicks off the month of December with wonderful music and festive fun. Apple cider and pretzels are available to guests throughout the night.
The concert is divided into two main parts and an intermission between the two. The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble perform first. During intermission, there are showings by smaller ensembles, including Tuba Christmas. During the second half, the freshman Concert Band and the Wind Symphony conclude the show. Mr. Medd, PV Band’s newest director, was excited for his first concert with the Wind Ensemble. “I am getting along with the Wind Ensemble, and I think we can do very well this year,” Medd commented. Every band at Pleasant Valley was well prepared for Monday’s performance. Drum major and senior Vincent Gnad described the bittersweet feeling of his final Cider and Pretzel concert: “The concert was fantastic, and I will miss making music with my friends. It was a jolly good time!”
Be it nostalgia or wonder, the Cider and Pretzel concert certainly brings good feelings to many people. If you missed this year’s concert, there will always be more performances by the PV bands to enjoy throughout the school year.
