The dual meet against the Bettendorf Bulldogs did not go as planned for the Spartan swimmers. After all 11 events were finished, the teams tied at 85-85.
Out of the 11 events, the Spartans managed to win two of them, but were able to grab multiple second and third places to tie up the meet. Spartan coach Stacey Zapolski says, “A swim meet ending in a tie does not come around very often.”
Coach Zapolski does not mind the tie. She believes, “A dual meet is just a chance to see where you are at for that point in the season.” She also adds, “The focus for our team is to train hard through each and every dual meet, no matter who the opponent is.”
The rivalry between the two teams has been around forever. The seniors this year don’t remember the last time PV beat Bettendorf.
Nate Martell, freshman, is not disappointed with how the meet turned out. “I would’ve loved to win against our biggest rival, but since we tied, everyone is happy.” Martell is excited for the future years on the team, saying, “Hopefully next time we can come back and beat them.”
Currently, Pleasant Valley is ranked third and Bettendorf seventh in the state.
