On Saturday Jan. 7, Pleasant Valley High School performed their children’s show “What Happened After Once Upon a Time.” The play was directed by senior, Sally Walker, and assistant directed by junior, Jacob Dougherty, with junior, Molly Dippel, as stage manager. Production for the play started began on Nov. 16
In the morning before the general public show, the cast and crew held workshops for the children to attend. The workshops ranged from stage combat, to makeup and included everything in between. After the morning workshops, the children were given an opportunity to show their parents what they learned in a showcase before the 1 o’clock show that was exclusively for the children and their families.
For much of the cast “What Happened After Once Upon a Time” was their first performance at PVHS. Kelsey Borbeck, senior, said, “It was a great experience. Everyone was so supportive and kind to me, no one ever looked down on me for it being my first show. It was more than I could ever ask for. I wouldn’t want my first performance on stage to be anywhere other than with the PV Drama Department.”
This was Walker’s directorial debut. In the director’s notes in the program Walker said, “‘What Happened After Once Upon a Time’ was such an amazing opportunity to direct, and I loved working with such a magical, fun-loving cast and crew. Their efforts brought my own personal fairytale to life.”
Borbeck added, “My favorite part was being able to create such close connections with many people that I admire in the drama department. There are so many people that worked in crew and who were also on the show that I spent a lot of time creating great memories with.”
