This spring, the members of Spartan Assembly are gearing up to start their annual spring fundraiser. This year Spartan Assembly will be participating in the statewide Iowa service project. High schools are raising money in support of The Native Fund. According to their website, “The Native Fund is the brainchild of Dallas Clark and Ashton Kutcher. In 2008, both felt helpless watching the devastation created by the catastrophic flooding in Cedar Rapids and wished from their respective out-of-state homes at the time that there was some way they could help–help not only in that particular disaster but future ones as well. In their conversations, the concept for The Native Fund was born.”
Their website further described, “The Native Fund is committed to raising funds and organizing resources that can be used to assist the people of Iowa in their times of need. Specifically, The Native Fund will provide assistance and relief through its financial and programmatic resources to Iowans suffering from a natural disaster, to Iowa’s post-9/11 veterans of the United States Armed Forces who are in need medical or other assistance, and to Iowa children afflicted with life-threatening illness or disease.” This spring, the Spartan Assembly is committing their time and effort into supporting The Native Fund.
Cecily Clark, senior, is the Vice-President of Spartan Assembly. Clark commented, “Spartan Assembly has decided to participate in the state project this year as a way to give back to our community. There are two ways we are fundraising for The Native Fund. We are accepting money donations, and we are also trying to get people to sign up for The Native Fund’s database of volunteers. This isn’t a commitment to be a volunteer, it is just putting people into a database so The Native Fund has resources to plead for help from.”
“Our efforts could possibly be rewarded for this fundraiser. The school that raises the most money and collects the most sign-ups will receive a visit from Ashton Kutcher and Dallas Clark” mentions Clark. Spartan Assembly are selling T-shirts at Sparbucks in the mornings, and will be talking to other classrooms throughout the day next week in school.
