As the school year begins and students come back to school, they are often looking for a way to expand their learning. One way students do this is through the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
The club has its sights set on creating the next generation of men and women in business and is the largest business career and technical student organization in the world. FBLA brings in hundreds of thousands of students across the country to participate in activities and competitions to help prepare them to become the next leaders of tomorrow’s global society.
Pleasant Valley has created a very successful and thriving club led by Janene Murphy, as well as student leaders in the club such as Nathan Musal, Reetham Gubba and Grant Jaques, who will be attempting to lead their fellow members to Nationals in competition this year. In previous years the club has taken many of their members through the levels of competition and won various awards at nationals.
Teachers are always looking towards the future success of students and allowing students to grow. Murphy believes successful FBLA members are often hard-working and dedicated. “Work, working hard and having a nice knowledge base from classes and being able to build on that,” said Murphy.
The club continues to grow with nearly a total of 50 students attending the club at the beginning of this semester for their first meeting. “Yeah, there were a lot of people, it was wonderful…looking forward to that,” said Murphy.
A large turnout and popularity can bring fresh ideas and new perspectives into the club for the benefit of its members. This can build a better team and allow more options for student collaboration as the club approaches competitions.
Although the club has a rising body of students, they are always looking for more of those who are eager to excel in business and hungry for success. “It is a great opportunity to hone your skills in a variety of areas no matter what interest you have,” said Musal to prospective club members.
FBLA is a place where students can express their ideas and find ways to create success while still in high school. “I think I have developed as both a person, a leader and a competitor…it has been a great time,” said Musal.
Those looking for opportunities to expand their knowledge and make new connections can find information for the club events on flyers throughout the school or can talk to Murphy in room 187.
