Megan Maloney, senior, is heavily involved with the choir and drama departments at school. Along with being involved, she has made a huge impact on many other singers’ lives. Sally Walker, senior, said, “Her voice is phenomenal. Every emotion she is doing can be heard in every note. She is absolutely amazing.”
How long have you been in choir?
I have been involved in choir around the community and at school for the majority of my life! I started church choir when I was three or four and then I went on to participate on Holiday Pops Children’s’ Chorus for three years. I started Pleasant Valley choir in sixth grade and I have been involved since then!
What is your favorite part of choir?
Getting to meet so many different people who all have a similar passion for singing.
When did you realize you have a talent in choir?
I have always loved to sing, but I think my teachers helped me to realize it could be a career for me!
Do you wish to continue your singing career? If so, how?
Yes, I am currently auditioning at seven schools to pursue a major in Vocal Performance!
What is your favorite choir memory?
Getting to spend time at honor choirs and hanging out with old friends as well as meeting new people.
What has been your favorite play that you have been a part of? Why?
Probably Sweeney Todd, because I like to sing that style of music the most.
Do you have a singer that inspires you? If so who is it and why?
One, among many, is Dawn Upshaw because she was one of the first classical singers I listened to and introduced me to the beauty of classical voice.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Being selected as a soloist at the NC ACDA Honor Choir.
What sacrifices have you had to make in order to continue singing in choir?
Being a singer requires you to be really healthy in order to perform at your best, so I have just had to put a lot of effort into staying well all year long!
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to be successful in singing?
The more experience you can get, the better! Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there because even if you fail, you still will have learned from your experience.
