April 4 marked the premiere of “A Minecraft Movie,” and as people across the country flooded the theatres for its release, many companies hit the world with massive collaborations in celebration of the film.
With collaborations ranging from Adidas to NYX Cosmetics, one of the most notable partnerships is with the popular food chain McDonald’s. On April 1, McDonald’s announced the brand would be launching a Minecraft Happy Meals and an Official Minecraft Meal.
Both these meals feature different twists that reflect aspects of the movie and video game. The partnership has been extremely successful, with many teens flooding the nearby McDonald’s chains. “I am so excited that Minecraft came to McDonald’s because it gave us kids more options,” said junior Maren Ouellette. “I’ve seen the Minecraft Happy Meal on Tik Tok and it looked really interesting so I wanted to try.”
With fantastic marketing, the Minecraft Meal is hard to resist. “Because I love Minecraft so much, I feel like as a true fan I need to go to McDonalds and try this meal. Unfortunately when I first went, the Minecraft Meal was sold out,” said senior Lauren Brohm.
After less than a week, not just one, but both nearby McDonald’s locations have sold out of the Minecraft Meal. The consumerism the movie has brought to the fast food chain has been rejuvenating and exciting for all involved. While McDonald’s gets away with selling a $20 meal, customers get to relive the nostalgia of one of the greatest video games of all time.
The Official Minecraft Meal consists of the choice between either a Big Mac or 10-piece nuggets. If one opts for the nuggets, then the coveted Nether Flame” sauce is included as well. The meal also features an official Minecraft toy that can be redeemed online for an in-game skin.
With “A Minecraft Movie” massively overperforming in theatres, and with so much to unpack, it’s no shock that the meal is bringing in such numbers. “Even as a health and fitness aficionado, I would be willing to forgo my healthy lifestyle just to try the nether flame sauce,” Brohm added.
All in all, the McDonald’s team up with “A Minecraft Movie” is a mix of genius marketing and a display of McDonald’s aim to connect with customers. By offering such a unique eating experience, the momentum Minecraft is bringing to McDonald’s comes with even more excitement from fans.
