When people think of popular kids’ movies, their minds typically go to Disney princesses or classics like “The Lion King”. Here’s a list of the top 5 underrated childrens’ movies. Although they might be known, they don’t get the amount of attention that they deserve.
- Epic
- As the name suggests, this movie is epic. It follows the story of a teenage girl who goes by the name of MK. She gets transformed into a tiny person and joins a race of “leaf men” who protect the forest from decay, riding birds and fighting off the evil “Boggans.” MK must secure the future of the leaf people and the preservation of the forest before she can return to her true size.
- Monsters vs. Aliens
- In this film, the main protagonist, Susan, is affected by a nearby asteroid impact and becomes gigantic. Due to her monstrous size, the government seizes her and places her in a monster containment facility where she meets a group of monsters. This group is then tasked with defeating an alien who is seeking out the substance that made Susan massive.
- Emperors New Groove
- “Emperor’s New Groove” follows the adventures of Incan Emperor Kuzco and his peasant partner Pacha. After Kuzco is turned into a llama by his evil, power-hungry advisor, they must stop Yzma from taking the throne and return Kuzco to his human form.
- Megamind
- After years of villain Megamind and superhero Metroman battling, Megamind finally defeats his nemesis. He quickly realizes that his life as a villain is unsatisfying without someone trying to stop him, so he attempts to create a new hero. With his new superpowers, his new opponent decides that it is more fun being a villain than a good guy.
- Brother Bear
- Set in post-Ice Age Alaska, Native teenager Kenai has a disliking for bears. When his older brother is killed by a bear, Kenai sets out for revenge. He kills the bear but is then magically transformed into one by the Great Spirits. In his new form, Kenai bonds with a young bear cub as he journeys to the magical mountain in hopes of becoming human again.
