How to get the summer body you want

As winter comes to an end, everyone’s favorite season is right around the corner. With summer comes the “dreadful” swimsuit season. Girls everywhere believe it is necessary to have the perfect summer body, to accommodate for society’s views on women, during this season.

Pleasant Valley High School’s nurse, Pam Cinadr, knows all the tips and tricks to get your summer body, the healthy way. “Diet and exercise is the only healthy way to lose weight and keep your body in shape. It has to be a life change, not just a temporary change,” said Cinadr.

“The most important thing you can do is learn to be a label reader, it can be shocking how much sugar is in things you eat everyday. An ideal diet for a young person is low carb, high protein, and lots of vegetables, not only do these things make you healthier but they boost your energy levels,” says Cinadr. Cinadr also said, “Also, cut all the soda out of your routine and drink lots of water instead. Even diet sodas are just as bad as regular ones. Remember that six small meals a day is healthier than three large ones a day because it keeps your metabolism going.”

Exercise is also very important for the youth to have in their daily routine, even if it is just walking daily. “You don’t have to exercise just once a day, when a few short workouts a day can give you the same results. A great app you can use to keep yourself consistent is Couch to 5K. The app slowly increases your walk/run ration everyday until  you are able to run a 5K. It is important to exercise everyday when you are trying to lose weight or even just maintain a healthy looking body. Taking days off will only hurt you in the long run,” says Cinadr.
