Energy drinks have become a common staple for high school students. It’s common to see groups carrying brightly colored drinks in various cup sizes or cans while walking down the hallway. So, the new addition of the popular drink place, 7 Brew Coffee has brought excitement to the high school.
The new 7 Brew location on Middle Road is scheduled to open April 27. This coffee shop replaces the former BP gas station and joins several other coffee shops in the surrounding area, including Starbucks, Atomic, Gravastar and Vibrant Coffeehouse + Kitchen.
Recently, the shop has been open at certain times of the day serving select drinks for free. Workers say the purpose is to practice for opening day without the immediate rush.
Students are eager to try the different drinks and flavors and many are also working at the new 7 Brew.
Addison Leiby, a senior at PV with plans to attend Scott Community College next year, said she is excited to work at 7 Brew. She described the preparation she and her co-workers have put in for opening.
“For training, we had 4-5 days. I had 4 days of training. The training days categories were iPad training so taking orders and figuring out how to work the iPad. The second day was shots, so working the coffee machine as well as figuring out scoops for flavors in drinks. The third day was milk and chillers/smoothies[…] The last day was expo and lane and that was just learning how to run drinks to the different stands outside to give to customers and to make sure everything was perfect and correct,” Leiby said.
Liberty Powell, also a senior at PV, has also put in similar work to prepare for opening day and said she has enjoyed getting to know all her new co-workers.
“To be able to work at 7 Brew, you have to pass an online test and also a practical, showing what you know,” shared Powell. ”We have become very prepared before the opening dates.”
After the in-depth training, Leiby and Powell had confidence in the 7 Brew team for opening day.
“I feel that our team is getting better while we prepare to open as we also are hiring people all the time and there are new girls in the chat every day but I know that we will be ready when the time comes to open,” said Leiby.
Excitement for opening day is growing through the high school, so the pressure for the day to go well can be overwhelming. But both have expressed they haven’t felt stressed by the day approaching.
The environment that 7 Brew brings is happy and upbeat, which makes a great addition to the community. These jobs provide students with opportunities to learn new skills and meet new people. Leiby and Powell both enjoy getting to know their coworkers and have fun preparing for opening.
“So far I have really enjoyed working with everyone and just the whole overall experience. I feel that my favorite part about getting ready to open has just been the learning experiences but also hanging out with our trainers and having fun,” said Leiby.
“The experience has been very fun. All the managers are very positive and make you feel very confident in your skills before opening day,” said Powell. “My favorite part of working at 7 Brew so far has definitely been getting to know my coworkers but also making my own fun drinks and customizing them.”
One thing that makes 7 Brew stand out is their fun deals and days for customers and workers. “But I’m very excited to open and also for swag day! This year, the team has a theme of the wrong occasion, so we get to dress up into an outfit that doesn’t really fit the occasion[…]so look out for that on swag day!” shared Leiby.
7 Brew makes an amazing new addition for the community and adds excitement for students who get the opportunity to work there or for students who now have another place to get an energy drink before school.
