Senior Avery Luepker is new to Pleasant Valley this school year, transferring from Calamus-Wheatland High School, not too far from the Quad Cities. Luepker quickly found his niche within the music community here at PV; he has had no trouble getting involved and meeting new people, thanks to his outgoing and friendly personality.
Q: Why did you decide to transfer to PV?
A: I decided to come here for the music and drama programs because my old school’s program was so small. We had one choir, which was small, and one band, which was small. Also, I want to go into music after high school, so I wanted more opportunities.
Q: What are you involved in music-wise?
A: Marching band, jazz band, Quad City Youth Symphony Orchestra, chamber choir, jazz choir, the musical, and I’m auditioning for all-state.
Q: What’s your favorite instrument to play?
A: Probably trombone or clarinet, they’re both fun but so different.
Q: Who are you playing in the upcoming musical?
A: I’m playing Robert Martin, one of the male leads. I’m marrying the female lead, Janet. I get to learn how to tap dance, so that’ll be fun.
Q: What can you tell me about your character’s personality?
A: Robert creates a little bit of trouble for himself. I can’t tell you any more because I don’t want to spoil the musical!
Q: What’s your favorite thing about PV so far?
A: My favorite thing is probably meeting all the people and making a bunch of new friends. The teachers and students are all really welcoming. Also, the music program is fantastic!
