Snapchat releases filters personalized to high schools

Snapchat is now personal to the Spartans. Geofilters, a
component of Snapchat that allows users to showcase their location, have gained major popularity recently. With high school football season kicking off, Snapchat is introducing an exciting new feature in collaboration with ScoreStream. Snapchat will gain even more acclaim with the upcoming release of new filters that will reveal live updates from high school football games around the country. These additional filters will have joined the rest of the collection by Sept. 2. Similar to the NBA filters which were broadcasted, the high school filters will include team names, live scores, logos and match times. Gatorade branding will be displayed on the filters, as they are the sponsor.

Although Snapchat has not yet released a list of schools that will be represented with these filters, they have claimed that these personalized filters will appear at over 5,000 games each week. ScoreStream, the company they are partnering with for this feature, already displays sports updates about Pleasant Valley High School on their platform.

“Attendance at high school sporting events is two-and-a-half times greater than all pro sports combined, yet there has never been a comprehensive source for real-time high school sports content, until now,” Derrick Oien, ScoreStream’s founder and CEO, said in a statement pFullSizeRender 2ublished on Mashable. “Offering our crowd-sourced, hyper-local sports content to Snapchat’s unrivaled audience of millennials marks a sea change in how local sports will be consumed going forward.”

I love that snapchat has high school filters now!! It’s very nice to be able to see the score of the game, although you can only see it if you’re at that place which is a bit useless. But, the score filter is nice to send to people who aren’t at the game. The snapchat filter is great but when I was at the last home game I looked at the filter and the score was not accurate so that’s a little disappointing.
