Finding fun things to do when the temperature drops may seem like a hard thing to do and many students believe there’s nothing to do at all! However, the activities are endless. From being with your family indoors to braving the cold and having fun outdoors, the winter can become one of people’s favorite seasons.

One new and popular place is Frozen Landing. This ice skating rink is located in Bettendorf’s Splash Landing parking lot. It opened last winter and was a huge hit with the locals. All ages are welcome and the best part of it all is that it’s free to skate! Pleasant Valley Senior Lauren Barlow, “loves how it’s super cheap and close to the high school.” If people don’t own their own ice skates they are only two dollars to rent. This is one place that everyone in a family can be happy and create great memories.

Another popular place to go is SnowStar in Andalusia, Illinois. Yes it is a 30 minute drive but it’s worth it for a snowboarding skiing location. They have 15 trails and 11 snow tubing lanes ranging from beginner to advanced. Pleasant Valley Senior Matt Umland enjoys going to snowstar when he can. He mentioned that, “I enjoy going to Snowstar because of the people. The people you meet at Snowstar are extremely fun to ski with and hang out with all day on the slopes.” There is something at Snowstar for everyone even those who have no equipment or have never gone before. They have skis, snowboards, and boot rentals for everyone. Also, short lessons to help those beginners.

Another fun activity is going to get a real Christmas tree. There are many places to get a fake tree but the memories of finding the perfect tree and cutting it down with a person’s family will not be made. Some of the best places to go in the quad cities are Up North Pine and Timber Lane. A person can pick from hundreds of different trees. They will help families load up the tree then it’s up to you to drag it in your house without making a mess, but in the end it’s all worth the memories. A freshly cut decorated tree is a hard sight to beat at this time of year. Pleasant Valley Senior Lily Feldman mentions that, “I enjoy the presence of a real Christmas tree. It really brings out the traditional celebration of this festive holiday.”

These are just a few of the many fun holiday activities that can be done right here in the Quad Cities. The possibilities are endless, just go out and try something new to make the winter the best season of the year.
