On Sept. 18, 2016, a stabbing took place at the Mall Of America. At least nine shoppers were stabbed, and all were seriously injured.
Police reports say the attacker was wearing a private security uniform while running around the mall. He began stabbing shoppers at Crossroads Centers a little after 8 pm. The attacks occurred in several areas of the mall. Authorities are currently viewing the incident as a potential terrorist attack. Richard Thorton, an FBI Special Agent, told reporters, “There’s a lot we don’t know. We do not at this point in time know whether the subject was in contact with, had connections with, or was inspired by a foreign terrorist organization.”
Natalie Adams, senior, says, “I do not feel safe at [Northpark Mall]. I believe it should have more security running around making sure all areas are safe.”
Mall of America security guards discovered the stabbing after 9 individuals got injured, all ranging between the ages of 15 and 53. They were all taken to the hospital, but no one was reported dead.
Jason Falconer, an off-duty police officer, shot the suspect just as he lunged to stab him. The mall remained on lockdown and shoppers were not allowed to leave until later that morning.
