For the very last time, the senior choir members at Pleasant Valley High School stepped on the stage and performed for an audience. Monday night was filled with lots of smiles, tears and beautiful music.
The end of the year awards night and senior choir concert is something that everyone looks forward to. With all of the ensembles performing at one concert, the students get to perform for one of their biggest audiences of the year.
Beforehand, the vocal music department held an awards ceremony to recognize all the hard work and accomplishments of the students. Handing out awards to students who were selected into the Opus Honor Choir, All State Honor Choir and the North Central American Choral Directors’ Association (NCACDA) Honor Choir. In addition, the directors recognized students who received outstanding performance ratings at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival and recognized the Leading Tones, who ranked second for all jazz choirs in the state of Iowa this year. Directors then proceeded to hand out choir awards for the most outstanding musicians in each grade.
“It was great to be recognized for all the time and effort that we put in and to share all those accomplishments with an audience,” said senior Bailey Connors.
Everyone then filed into the theater for the presentation of the seniors. They got recognized with their parents for all their years that they have been a part of the vocal music department. After that, concert choir took the stage a night full of music ensued. Between each large group performance, ensembles and solos that were selected as outstanding performances from solo/ensemble festival performed, those being: the mixed quartet of Bailey Connors, John Mendalin, Halle Fish and Kaylin McNeal; the Bass Clef Ensemble comprised of Brendan Roethler, Caden Bennion, Avery Luepker, Reece Vining, Rishem Bhogal, Bailey Connors, Nathan Lyon and John Mendalin; and soloists Sean Wallace, Ellie Lindmark, Halle Fish and Bailey Connors.
Senior Roshni Nair said, “It is always one of my favorite concerts of the year, but this year being a senior made it much more special. Getting to perform with my best friends one last time on the PVHS stage was so special and I will forever cherish my time with the choir program.”
Following the Chamber Choir’s final performance together, the senior choir members stepped to the front of the stage as every single choir member filled the stage, and even some of the aisles, to sing the senior song. “A Million Dreams” from the greatest showman was a touching moment for any audience member and will surely be remembered by everyone.
