Fall is officially in full swing, and sweater weather is upon PV. As the weather gets chilly, it’s time to throw on a few extra layers. How can one dress up a cozy look this fall?
This year, new style crazes are sweeping the country. While some students prefer the sweatshirt and sweatpants look for the winter, others are using the cold weather as a way to express their fall style.
Over the summer, many students wore rompers, overalls, and jean skirts. As the cold weather approaches, students don’t have to let go of those trends. Dry Goods, Peaceful Style Boutique and other stores around the QC sell jumpsuits, which are basically rompers with pant legs instead. They come in hundreds of styles and colors, and they’re super comfy of course.
Overalls with skirts or long pants are also a unique twist on a summer style. Velvet and denim overalls can be easily paired with a black or white long sleeved shirt.
A unique style of pants has ravaged the PV community as of late: paper bag pants, a loose pant with a scrunched waist and built-in belt. Additionally, many students are going for ankle pants this year. Ankle pants resemble jeans but are typically made of cotton and stop at the ankles.
For shoes, Vans seem to be a popular choice this season. Vans come with high top and low top options, and just about every color. “Vans are the move, they go with everything,” said sophomore Courtney Mohr. A simple pair of Vans can be paired with a dressy outfit in the fall and work for any occasion.
Popsugar magazine said that high-heeled boots and mules are very in this season. Heeled boots pair well with dresses or skirts and work for a more fancy occasion.
According to Vogue magazine, colors like whiskey brown, olive green, orange, and cherry-red are very trendy this fall. Pairing contrasting colors like olive green and orange is aesthetically pleasing and makes for great pictures. “My colors to wear during fall are types of greys and browns with an accent color like red or orange. I think olive green looks really nice in fall too,” said sophomore Ceely Patramanis.
“Adding a dark lipstick, love your melon hat, or simple tassel earrings, are easy ways to dress up an outfit,” said senior Victoria Parejko.
Stores in NorthPark mall like H&M are stocking up on flannels and jean jackets as well. Throwing on a flannel or jean jacket with a simple t-shirt is an easy way to stay warm and fashionable. TJ Maxx and Dry Goods also sell sherpa jackets and vests, which are a staple.
Skinner suggested a few places for shopping this autumn, “Dry Goods, Von Maur, The Buckle, and H&M. Dry Goods has a bunch of cute fall clothes like scarves, hats, and sweaters. The Buckle has cute, comfortable jeans, and H&M has cute jean jackets and sweaters as well. H&M is cheaper than Dry Goods and Von Maur by far. Tj Maxx also has some cute findings like leggings and a few cute windbreakers and sweaters for a cheaper route.”
