With one home football game left, the Spartan Marching Band is beginning to work on the Senior Show. Each year, the band directors give the senior members of the marching band the opportunity to choose the music and write the drill to the music, as well as teach the drill during rehearsals to let them create their last high school marching band show. Before the show, the seniors walk down the middle of the field and are recognized by name before marching together at the front of the field for the last time. Every year, it proves to be a fun show that showcases the seniors’ creativity.
The tradition of the Senior Show has been going on for quite a while. Drew Anderson, one of the band directors at PV, says that “this tradition goes back at least 30-40 years in the Spartan Marching Band.” The reason the tradition continues is because it lets the seniors be together for their final show and make it one to remember. Tara Daurer, another one of the band directors at PV, says that “it is an opportunity for the seniors to show what they have liked and learned in music selection and drill design. Senior Show is usually more memorable for the students as the seniors are making these important decisions and are all together in these last rehearsals and performance.”
Henry Friederichs, a 2016 Pleasant Valley graduate and former band member, saw the show as a fun way to end his high school marching career, saying, “it’s fun and eye opening in the sense that you realize you’re almost done with high school marching band forever. It’s a really fun way to cap off your senior marching season.” Friederichs stated that the coolest part about the Senior Show was just, “doing it yourself and being able to see what you created put together.”
Mainly, the purpose of the Senior Show is to unite the senior class on the field for a final time and give them a memorable experience. Daurer stated that “all that matters is that it is the seniors’ favorite show of the year.” The Senior Show will be performed at the next home football game on Oct. 21. Anderson stated, “the seniors have come up with some very creative shows over the years,” This one will be no different.

The senior show is going to be great and it was a great experience creating the drill for All Star and helping teach the band all of the spots. I’ve never realized that it has been going on that long too.
