When the school day ends and homework has filled the daily agenda, it’s time to find a place to sit down and work. A handful of students prefer to take their school work to a local coffee shop. The people that partake in this have many choices, but the two most common coffee shops in town are Coffee Hound and Dunn Brothers.
So the question arises: are you a dog or a bro?
Students around Pleasant Valley are spotted buried into their books at both of these coffee shops. Coffee Hound, on Devils Glen Rd, is a little bit smaller than Dunn Brothers off 53rd Ave. Coffee Hound’s interior is dog themed, along with their menu that does the same. It has a couple low top tables and many high top tables, but no table tops big enough for a group larger than four or five. They do, however, have a nice lounge area toward the back of the shop for larger groups.
The inside of Dunn Brothers is much more spacious. Low top tables fill most of the dining area, but a few high top tables are available as well. There is also a large rectangular conference table that seats 10 to 12 people so there’s a space for groups to collaborate.
Senior Macy Beinborn didn’t hesitate to state which coffee shop she prefers. She explained that the calm environment makes studying a lot easier and it’s hard for her to study elsewhere. “Dunn Bro’s, one hundred percent,” she said.
Khalled Ismail also chooses Dunn Brothers over Coffee Hound. He said it’s the place he has always gone in order to get work done. “It’s a comfortable place,” Ismail said, “and Dunn Brothers are the only brothers with a positive influence.”
On the other hand, sophomore Grace Pender said, “I go to Coffee Hound because it’s a great environment to study and not get distracted. Having been to both Dunn Brothers and Coffee Hound, I can say with certainty that I am a hound for coffee.”
The two places have similar benefits, but it’s all a personal preference at the end of the day. Some students would classify themselves as a dog, while others would say they’re a bro.
