108 years in the making: Chicago Cubs

1945 was the last time the Chicago Cubs had ever played in a World Series. It was also the last time that a goat was brought into Wrigley. In game four of the 1945 World Series, the Curse of the Billy Goat was laid upon the Cubs when Philip K. Wrigley ejected Billy Sianis, who had come to game four with his goat. Upon his ejection, an angry Sianis screamed, “the Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more!”and he sent a ruthless telegram to the Cubs owner saying that they would never win another World Series. The Cubs went on to lose game 4 and then lost the 1945 World Series in seven games.

108 years later, in 2016 it happened. The Cubs are World Series champs. And they could only do it one way, the Cubs way. They had to go down three games to one. They had to make the series go to 7 games. They had to blow an 8th inning lead and then go into extras in game seven and they had to have the rain delay and then they had to win. The cubs had to make their first World Series in 108 years probably the best one ever.

There are people who thought they would never see the Cubs with the World Series. They probably have some of the most loyal fans in baseball that have stuck by the Cubs through all of it. It shows to the kind of team the Cubs are, and the type of atmosphere there is around baseball in the north side of Chicago.

I am Ryan Morrissey. I am now a senior and I have always lived in the Pleasant Valley school district. I enjoy sports but the only one I play is baseball. It is a full time commitment going practically year around. But when I’m not playing baseball or at school, I like to play video games shoot hoops in front of my house and hang out with my friends. A couple hobbies that I have are collecting baseball cards and all star game baseball hats. The reason I took honors journalism was because I like English but, I don’t like writing long extensive papers so this just seemed like a good fit.
