Twice a year the clocks are changed and our trust is in our ancestors to be right. Discarding daylight savings would be a good change
There are two states that have passed and some are considering passing the law to end daylight savings. This would mean that there would be no time change in November or in March.
In March, the clocks are reset an hour ahead and in November they go back an hour. This is to make sure people are awake during the hours the sun is out the longest.
Getting rid of daylight savings for the whole country would benefit our country and could be a good change.
Arizona and Hawaii are the only two states that have successfully opted out on daylight savings time. Illinois, Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma are just a few of the states that are trying to get rid of it as well.
Senior Clare Basala expressed her opinion very strongly. “Get rid of it. I hate when I feel the need to go to bed at 5 o’clock in the winter because it’s already pitch black outside,” she stated.
There are a lot of Iowa and Illinois residents crossing the river daily and some work on the other side of the river as well. If Illinois were to pass the new law and Iowa does not then there would be a lot of people who would have messed up schedules and chaotic lives. This is why the whole country needs to pass the law.
Basala is an Iowa resident, but both of her parents work in Illinois. “The whole country would need to do it and stick to the same plan,” she said. “Our entire schedule would be messed up with having both of my parents working in Illinois and they would have to switch back and forth between times would be a hassle,” exclaimed Basala.
This new idea would be a change, but for the better. Everyone would be on the same time and there would be no more confusion.
