Use these songs to spice up your Christmas playlist and get festive for the holidays!

While the OG Christmas songs are special in their own ways, sometimes we need some newer songs or even a new spin on an oldie to add some spice to our Christmas music. Here are 10 modern Christmas songs to add to your Christmas music playlist.

Hallelujah- Pentatonix

This song is from “A Pentatonix Christmas,” an album from 2017. Hallelujah has become an extremely popular song from the acapella group receiving 577 million views on YouTube. If you want to listen to a beautiful, yet timeless song, add Hallelujah to your playlist.

Last Christmas- Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s spin on the original song by Wham! came out in her 2007 album “The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection.” If you enjoy the original, be sure to listen to Taylor Swift’s version for a more upbeat touch, with some hints of country.

All I Want For Christmas Is You- Mariah Carey

This song is originally sung by Mariah Carey on her 1994 album “Merry Christmas.” This song is a classic while also incorporating modern elements. If you like Mariah Carey’s rich voice in her other songs, make sure to add this one to your playlist for a romantic and fun touch!

Underneath the Tree- Kelly Clarkson

This song by Kelly Clarkson is also a modern classic, coming out in 2013 in her album “Wrapped in Red.” If you like your Christmas music to have a fun, rhythmic and upbeat touch, this song is definitely for you. Kelly Clarkson will add variety and romance to your album with this song.

Mistletoe- Justin Bieber

Mistletoe is an original from Bieber’s 2011 album “Under the Mistletoe.” This song has the holiday and love components put into one catchy song. If you like Justin Bieber’s current music, make sure to check out this song to see a different style of music from him.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside- John Legend ft. Kelly Clarson

This song is a spinoff of the 1949 original song by Frank Loesser. If you enjoy hearing John Legend and Kelly Clarkson’s voices in other pieces, make sure to listen to their duet on John Legend’s 2019 album, “A Legendary Christmas.” This spin on the original captures their talent in their vocals and adds some jazzy tones.

Santa Tell Me- Ariana Grande

“Santa Tell Me” is an original song sung by Ariana Grande and released as a 2013 single. This song has a good beat laced with Grande’s smooth vocals. Grande combines love and Christmas in this song to ask Santa questions about her lover. If you like her music already, this song is a must add for your playlist.

Addi Steele, Photo Manager

Addi Steele is a senior who serves as a photo manager for the Spartan Shield. Addi is a very committed athlete and is very involved in multiple school activities. Steele has participated in cheer since freshman year as a member of both the football and basketball squads. She’s been a varsity cheerleader since freshman year, and this year was named captain of the varsity football cheer team. Adding to her cheer activities, Addi is a member of the Sparkles cheer team, and outside of school, Addi works as a YMCA gymnastics coach teaching lessons at the Bett Plex. When she’s not busy with her athletics, you can find Addi taking long drives, walking her dog, Sparky, or spending time with her cat, Lola. After high school, Addi plans on attending college in Arizona.
